✰ Day: 32 ✰ Theme: Owl (day 31) ✰ Time spent: 26 mins

Comments: I wanted to draw an owl yesterday, but didn't. Figured, why wait for day 40? Draw something when you still feel like it. xD
unnecessary side info; Imgur kept having that issue where it claims the site is over capacity when I try to upload to my phone app. Wouldn't upload it. Ugh. I had to roundabout this to my laptop and easily uploaded it to Imgur... just as I assumed would happen. Annoying. I reset the app but it continued to have that issue. … I hope it resolves
Also, seeing this drawing I did for the 2020 event made me feel like sketching with pencil c:
I used to mainly draw with pencil / colored pencil all the time. I brought paper and pencil with me everywhere. I sketched the world around me. I sketched from ref material I brought. I sketched from imagination. Since getting an iPad, it’s been easier to bring an iPad with me than carry everything else and worry about stuff getting folded or ripped. I also don’t sketch from life much anymore. I’ve put in my years. I’m trying to hone other skills now That said, I’m glad this quick owl worked out. If I had purpose for this, I would’ve put more time into accuracy and depth… but no thanks. XD; I’ve got other things to get done right now. But! It’s still nice to sketch every once in a while to test whether it’s still kinda in there. Also, I kept having to set the pencil down for one reason or another. And every time I picked it back up, it’d have that sharp edge and not the dull side I wanted. XD; Ugh. That’s one thing I take for granted now with my digital pencil brushes… the tool is consistent. I just remembered a story. If I sketch again, I’ll add that story to that post for sake of length. XD;
Later edit; Something else popped into my mind: space. My iPad / external drives take up a relatively small amount of space vs the amount of drawings on them. That’s mainly why I switched to digital. I’ve got a lot of drawings that take up a lot of physical space. I like to save most everything I’ve drawn. I have a future project where I need to digitize and throw them out. I’ll save some fav originals… but need to reclaim the space. Not to mention paintings on canvas! XD I have some that I want to keep, but not display. They also take up way too much space. XD

✰ Day: 35 ✰ Theme: off theme — food paint challenge ✰ Time spent: 20 mins

Comments: I liked today’s color palette so will revisit that in the future. I just want to get a head start on this week’s FPC. They run Friday to Friday. So I was technically late with last week’s. It’s nbd. No one is keeping track. However, I’d like to get back into the habit of doing these weekly They post such boring refs, but I take that as the challenge — making something interesting out of the mundane. It’s also neat to see how people have so many different approaches to the same ref

✰ Day: 37 ✰ Theme: off theme — continuing FPC ✰ Time spent: 26 mins

Comments: It’s coming together. I usually almost fully render a pic “normally” first before adding flair. I jumped ahead this time cuz I felt like it XD so I’ve still got some rendering left to do

✰ Day: 38 ✰ Theme: Art Challenge: Draw with your non-dominant hand, Raven/Crow ✰ Time spent: 8 mins

Comments: I’m right handed. In 2021, my right hand was injured and I completed the majority of the event with my left hand. I’d never drawn with my left hand before that. I turned up the stabilization on all of my brushes. It felt like there was none. XD Anyway, I didn’t keep it up but I drew some of my personal favs that year. Had to get creative, simpler, and messier while I worked through it
Anyway, here’s a comparison. I used the same brush tool for both, no stabilization. Drew the bird with my right hand first as a warm up. Rewatching the video, I’m realizing that I have unlearned my good sketching habits I’d practiced. I learned to do deliberate, thoughtful strokes and now I’m back to sketchy lines that I keep going back over. Lol left hand. Just holding the pencil felt alien. And the first half of the bird was gnarly. It already started to feel more in control by the second half of the bird so it probably wouldn’t take long to get that skill back. … plus I’d make it heavy on the stabilizer if I did. XD The words “Right” and “Left” were also written with the respective hands

✰ Day: 40 ✰ Theme: finish earlier work: day 37 ✰ Time spent: 11 mins

Comments: Style somewhat based on these tomatoes I drew last year. … I really hated these tomatoes while working on them. The texture was too chalky/powdery and it was all blending to be really flat. I added the raking and line art to try to rescue it. I went back to grab this link and just paid attention to my comment. It said WIP. lol Funny how I didn’t think it was done and likely still hated it. Cuz I never went back and “finished it.” But now? I like that piece and assumed it was done. XD
Anyway, it made me want to go for some line art on food. I’ve done it other times too… but that just happened to be the inspiration here. Cucumbers also happen to have a thick skin that’s about the same color as the line art. XD So maybe I’ll go more bold next time.

✰ Day: 42 ✰ Theme: Spirit Challenge: Make an art tutorial for something ✰ Time spent:

Comments:
How to draw an orange slice 1. Draw a circle using an orange color 2. Use white or off white and draw a vertical and horizontal line 3. Draw more lines to create more slices. Uneven is better! 4. Make a yellow circle right inside the orange circle 5. Draw spider-web-like lines near the center. Uneven is better! Make connecting lines around each slice (similar as shown) 6. Fill in the white areas (as shown) 7. Make a light layer of orange 8. Layer some yellow squiggles in. It’s okay to go over the white lines a little 9. Fill in more orange 10. Use a white gel pen, etc. to add some highlight specs

✰ Day: 43 ✰ Theme: Pick a tutorial someone else created from the previous day and follow it! ✰ Time spent: didnt track

Comments: Saw Wrayth's tutorial. Got idea. Don't have apples on hand, but have a really nice apple drawing from years ago. Went through old art, didn't find it. (uhhh uh oh?)
So I switched to Quad's tutorial since it's a good excuse to try some pixel art. The app that I downloaded didn't have the extra features, so I had to import into procreate to fudge the shiny bits at the end. I also had to add a bg because art imported from the iPad tends to get a white bg even though it's transparent. (The white glow will disappear into the white background)
Then I decided to follow the spirit of Wrayth's tutorial with one of the art pieces that I found earlier

✰ ∘₊✧──────✧₊∘ ✰ ✰ Day # 44 ✰ Theme: beaches ✰ Time spent: 12 mins Comments: I had a few days where I had other things to prep for. All extra time went towards that. Then I had times where I could’ve drawn, but wanted to put good effort into drawings and didn’t want to quickly draw just to call the day done Well, that plan isn’t working out for me, lol So I’m gonna do some quick stuff to catch up
