What do you do if you want to scan In traditional art, but your scanner hates your guts?
Can ai be used as a starting point, if you need help? Ex. A certain pose or body part you need help with(hands, face). Just as a ref image, but not just to trace over and call it good. I've never used it myself, but it seems to be* gestures aggressively* EVERYWHERE lately.
Any suggestions for someone who would like to improve her digital art? The last program i used for digital art was paint.NET,which i just discovered is no longer free.I recently got a generic tablet and a refurbished laptop and I installed Ibis on the tablet, but I out of my depth here. Any stylus preferences or just try a bunch?
i would think as long as the art is as clear as possible and the theme you chose or at least concept is clear, it should be fine. there is also a discord you could use in order to just upload a photo taken by your phone. it still counts
as for AI... so long as it is not being used in your submitted art or as your submitted art, i don't see how using it as a reference point would be a problem. it is a tool after all, and there to aid.
as for the last question... uhhhhh i'll let someone else answer that since i'm still just winging it myself lmao xd

Thank you so much! I'm trying to improve any way I can. Also,do you know where to get male and female avi bases/templates? I did the usual methods to find them (search engine, deviantart, gaia itself),but no such luck. They used to be so easy do find when TekTek was around or when those kind of avi art were popular, but they seems to have diappeared.

i remember tek tek lol other than using your own avi img from the closet copied and put into an art program, no there aren't any that i'm aware of.

I'm basically gonna say the same stuff Katal did but still want to jump in
Lots of artists in this event take pics of their art with their phones. Or, as Katal said, you could join the Discord side of things and upload straight into Discord. So no worries about scanners if you don't want to mess with that
And AI, yeah, everything you guys already said. I just want to grab on to that last bit about AI being everywhere. IT IS. DX Last year, I just wanted refs of food and animals... and I had to sift through sooo many images before I'd find some that weren't AI. It's so frustrating when the subject is something you don't know well... so I couldn't just trust an AI image of some random animal. XD; ugh
I mainly draw digitally nowadays... but on an iPad. So I can't speak firsthand about a lot of the digital art programs on computer (nor tablets/styluses). I hear people suggest Ibis a lot. I've also heard them suggest "Krita" and "Gimp" too. Gimp is a lot like Photoshop. I've downloaded it over the years whenever I needed to do some digital artwork on my laptop. I think it had a steep learning curve. One pro for Gimp is that it's a lot like Photoshop. One con is that if you're not already familiar with Photoshop... it's not intuitive. As for Krita, I've never used it myself, but I see a lot of artists say they love it.
And you can try the My Gaia > Avatar Builder for base templates. You get all poses at once so you might need to cut it out yourself depending on what you need the bases for...

Hey there! I agree with what Katal and Cabbie have said ^^
The AI stuff is unfortunately unavoidable at this point, in terms of reference searching and what not... so yeah it's ok. If you need help finding non-AI images, I can do my best to help you out! I personally avoid AI stuff since you don't learn anything from AI images since they have mistakes all over them.
I do agree with the Krita recommendation. One of our other moderators uses Krita!
As for improving your digital art skills, I will have themes just for improving, so you can feel free to use those themes to follow along. And you can ask me questions or for feedback on things at any time! I am mostly available on the discord though, but I will try to log in as often as I can ^^ Is there any focus you have in particular? Humans? Animals? Landscapes? Illustrations?

I won't be awake when the 'official' start time begins so I wanted to go ahead and welcome everyone to the start of the event tonight! It will begin in just several hours and all artist threads have been unlocked at this point! Remember that other artist participation can be found on our Discord.
Don't forget you can preview next days suggested art themes at https://100daysofart.net/ at the bottom of the page under 'Tomorrow's Theme'. You can preview what the first day's themes will be if wanting to use this time to brainstorm!
If you have any questions or concerns feel free to message me, crazypieloverangel, or sdrawkcab! I most quickly available on Discord but check Gaia multiple times throughout the evening hours. I wish everyone a great event and hope you enjoy your time and progress!

Looks like you figured it out! You can change the number after the img= if you want it to be bigger ^^ And feel free to post here in this thread as well!

Where can we post comments on someone else's art? I heartloveheart everything I'm seeing and I want to give everyone their gaia_sakuraflowersgaia_sakura! Sorry if I'm asking too many questions. sweatdrop

This thread would be great! If the artist hasn't posted their art in this thread, you can always just tag them in a post here and comment. c: (If that doesn't make sense, lemme know and I'll clarify how to tag anyone into a thread)
Pie posted her art in both her thread and this thread the other day. That's a good example of what artists usually do during the event and it makes it easier for us all to comment to each other
A lot of the chatter is on Discord. I've been meaning to join chat (here and discord), but just haven't yet... (I've also got a long ramble that I wrote about digital art when I saw your post yesterday. I didn't submit it cuz I need to try to tighten it up first. It'll still be along ramble. XD; )
edit; Please keep asking any questions you have! Never too many
